Homemade Pita Bread

Pita bread is great with many different kinds of homemade dips as well as for sandwiches. The little pockets are perfect for filling up with any of your favorite flavors.

1       Tbsp yeast
1 1/4 cups warm water
1       tsp salt
3 - 3 1/2 cups flour

Combine the yeast and  the warm water in the bowl of your stand mixer and let sit for 5 minutes. If it does not begin to bubble and foam, the yeast is dead and you will need a new batch.

Add the salt and flour. Turn on the stand mixer and let it knead the dough for 8-10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic. If it is sticky, you can add some of the extra half cup of flour.

Divide the dough into 6-10 pieces depending on the size you want. Roll them out as thin an even as you can. If you have a tortilla press, this is a great time to use it. Let them rise on a floured surface for 35 minutes.

Preheat oven to 425F. Flip the pitas upside down onto the baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes. Keep an eye on them and you can see them pop up!
