This is something that everyone should know how to make at home. It is so easy to make (although time consuming) and it goes into so many great recipes.
1 L milk
1 cup granulated sugar
Put the milk and sugar in a heavy-bottom pot and slowly bring up to a simmer on medium. Lower the heat and continue to simmer another 2 hours(!!) stirring occasionally until it had reduced by half.
After the two hours, you can stir in a tablespoon of butter if you would like. Then put the condense milk into jars. The mixture will thicken more as it cools.
